March Work Day

Part of the group from Wilkinson Church of Christ worked to demolish an upper-level deck and stairs from the old "quad" at 19 N. Oxford Street for Englewood Community Development. The group made short work of the project and hauled the old wood to a dumpster across the street.

The other half of the group also worked very hard and got very dirty tearing down the lath and plaster walls and ceilings in a house just across the street from above. As you will see, the air is 'thick' and the group had to push themselves to complete their work.

They did find many "treasures" as they took down the ceilings. Letters and other things from before WWII were found and helped keep them motivated, in the dust and heat.

Sweeping up what comes off the ceilings and walls is a constant chore.

A large group from Woodland Heights CC worked outside and inside at Neighborhood Fellowship Church. Here, two guys did some careful window caulking.

Several got to apply tape and mud to the drywall ceilings. Some others got to hang a few sheets to form a closet. Others painted and cleaned.

The 3rd group was from Highland Church of Christ in Robinson, IL. They got up really early to come serve! Here some of the group puts in gutter drainage for the Reid family.

The other half of their group worked to install picket fences across the back of two Englewood properties.

April Work Day
On April 18th a group from St. Andrew United Methodist in Lafayette came to work and spend the weekend in a full MI experience – shower trailer too! This is the second year this church has sent a group.

image 19

The group gathered for prayer in the parking lot Saturday and that was a real encouragement to MI staff.

image 21

The group did everything from interior lath and plaster demolition...

...to picking up rocks and debris from a yard to prepare for landscaping.

image 15

Neither the group nor MI realized until we arrived on site, that part of their group had worked last spring just two doors down, building the above wheelchair ramp.

image 15

This time they worked in the yard of R.D. who ironically had been the one who suggested MI build the ramp for his neighbor in '08. No one could have known that 5 months after that first ramp was built, R.D. would be in a terrible accident and need a ramp of his own. The group helped finish the project for R.D. and his family.
